A copper water fountain can be a great addition to your home, whether it is for the backyard, front yard, patio, or even inside your home. There are plenty of styles and designs that you can choose from such as wall, tabletop, floor, and outdoor designs. If care is a concern there are a few things you can do to keep it looking new.
One step to keeping a great looking copper water fountain is to look into clear coated copper fountains, these come with a protective clear coating that will help you tremendously in keeping the fountain looking fresh and clean. Additionally, you can even add turtle wax every couple of months to a clear coated water fountain to add 1 more step of protection to your fountain. You could also use a furniture polishing product if you like. With a clear coated copper fountain, you actually do NOT want to use copper cleaner since it will damage the clear coat.
Cleaning the Pump is not so bad. Just turn the fountain off and remove the pump. Then you will want to grab a rag and clean out the outer casing gently, no need to “scrub”. Then once that is complete, remove the outer casing and wipe off the inside of the pump. Get all the general rubbish found in there like dirt, leaves and bugs. Once that’s done, reassemble, put it back in and make sure the water level is good before turning it on again.
If you decide to go with a general Copper Water Fountain you can use pledge to keep it clean however much you like. Of course if you wish your fountain to get the natural oxidization look, you will not want to use a harsh copper cleaner as it will remove the natural green patina that occurs. The amount of exposure to air, water and sunlight will cause the color to darken. If the copper water fountain is in direct sunlight constantly this will be a big cause of a darkening fountain. Using CLR will help to remove the additional oxidation without damaging the finish, just remember to use it as the instructions tell you too.
